Early encounters in aotearoa

today we learnt about the first explorers to come to New Zealand.

the first person apart from Maori was Abel Tasman and he arrived in 1642  He called New Zealand Nova Zealandia. The next person to arrive to NZ was James Cook and he arrived in 1769. He also brought a navigator called Tupaia. The Europeans brought pigs rats and diseases  and they also brought muskets witch is a old gun. Soon after that the musket wars started in 1830. The population after the wars was 40 Maori to 1 Pakeha.
